A man died after his ATV flipped

The rescue action took some hours.

Some fire units, including Sydney River, Howie Centre, and Glace Bay, were on location.

Dave Witzell, chief of the Sydney River Volunteer Fire Department, stated it was difficult for teams to find the man. “He had been in the water for some time and had gone down the river,” he stated.

Witzell said the man was found in a big brook, providing off Joe’s Lake, which had overflowed “rather drastically” after Saturday’s hefty rainfall.

“It had washed out one of the bridges that they usually used to get into that place, and that gave an extra issue for us to attempt and get around it,” he said.

An all-terrain investigation and rescue vehicle belonging to North Sydney’s fire division also moved into the brook during the rescue measure. It took several hours to retrieve.
