Snowfall warnings in Nova scotia

Key Takeaways:

  • Nova Scotia’s weird weather will continue this week, with the province bracing for snow on Wednesday.
  • As the 1st significant snowfall of the winter season approaches, Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for the entire province.

The snowfall warning had been extended from Yarmouth County to Halifax County on Tuesday afternoon, but it has now been extended to the rest of Nova Scotia.

“Snow will arrive in western Nova Scotia this afternoon or spread to the rest of the province later this evening also into the overnight hours,” said the warning on Wednesday.

“During the 1st few hours of the evening, a mix of rain and snow will fall along the South Shore.” Environment Canada predicts 15 to 30 centimetres of snow, with the heaviest accumulations likely on the South Shore and in eastern Cape Breton.

The snow will be completed by strong northeasterly winds, which might result in blowing snow as temperatures drop into the night, according to the forecast.

“Be ready to alter your driving when road conditions change,” the letter cautioned. “In thick snow, visibility may be decreased abruptly.” Early Thursday, conditions are expected to improve from west to east. The storm will follow a line of thunderstorms that knocked out power to nearly 25,000 Nova Scotia Power customers overnight Tuesday.
